Nice to see you here! Glad you caught this important announcement for October:
Artist + Mom is coming to a close this month - just moving to another spot!
This blog began with tracking my journey as an artist and new mom and sharing resources and news along the way. I'm grateful for the time here and the many comments and friends I've met during the process. My new blog Creative Tempo so I hope you will join me there! With the new space, I'll bring a new focus and be able to blog about more than just art + mom news to the page. I am excited to share and encourage artists along the creative journey.
Creative Tempo is a blog about beginning, then taking that step to finding your creative rhythm and balancing life to keeping it all going. Good days, not-so-good days, fast idea-flowing marathon in-the-studio days and days that you feel stuck and would rather give up. I post twice a week, with art, inspiration and share lots of stuff I’ve learned.
Hop on over! CreativeTempo.com
Thank you! Roxanne

Hanging art in the Bathroom
I have a dilemma and need your comments! One commenter will receive a free tip sheet on hanging art!!
I recently purchased work from an artist friend of mine - two beautiful, fun, colorful paintings. I wanted to hang them together and create a splash of joyful color and found the perfect spot - in the guest bathroom. I think they look great! They have received lots of compliments because everyone who comes over uses that bathroom and has time alone in there to take everything in, including the paintings!!
By chance, this artist and I got into a conversation about painting sizes and areas to hang them in a collectors home... we started talking about the bathroom and WHOA! - it hit a huge nerve with her and she went on to explain about how awful it was to have your work hung in a bathroom and the goal is to have the place of honor - above the fireplace or similar prominent location.
Ugh oh. Now the dilemma. Do I move these paintings that I love in their bathroom space - OR do I move them out of there to honor the artist's feelings?
How do you feel when a client hangs your art in the bathroom? Other than the obvious concerns of safety of the painting (humidity, heat). Does it feel as if your work is degraded?
Please comment your thoughts on this - one commenter will receive a free tip sheet on hanging art to thank you for your advice!

BlogHer Voices of the Year Gala & Art in New York

I'm excited to be invited to create art for the BlogHer Voices of the Year Gala, Friday, August 6th and the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan in New York. The event honors outstanding women writers who blog their inspirations.
All artists included in the event were given a quote or two from an assigned writer and asked to create a custom piece of art to be printed and auctioned at the Gala. Proceeds will benefit the Nature Conservancy's Gulf clean-up efforts.
If you are unable to attend, the art will be up on an online auction a week or so after the event - check back for updates, I'll post when the online auction is live.
The writer's don't know yet that they were chosen for a commissioned piece so I can't tell you about the inspiration behind my painting yet, but here is a look - it's called, The Crossing:
(original acrylic 36"h x 24"w / print for auction [1/1] 24"h x 18"w)

Watercolor Sketch Card Sold - Ripple Project Thank you!
One of my sketches for the Ripple Project, It's All In Our Hands, sold. The 100% donation goes to help marine life affected by the Gulf oil spill and I wrote more about the project and links here.
I'm working on more small sketch cards to put up on Kelly's site. Here is the one that sold:

I am so grateful that Susan from NY chose my piece for her donation, that I did another original watercolor on the front of her thank you card - here's a look:

If you haven't been to the Ripple site, stop by and take a look. There are wonderful little originals available and one-hundred percent goes to help!
